Hi! I’m Dr. Michael Rivers, Director of EMA Ophthalmology at Modernizing Medicine. Today, I will show you how you can use Protocols, in our ophthalmology EHR. Protocols are preemptively built-in diagnoses and have virtually every plan of action you could possibly think of to match.

I’m going to pick my cataract surgery with one touch on the right side. You’ll notice the toggle turned purple. I’m also going to include dry macular degeneration and dry eye. And when I save these three touches, it’s automatically going to have my entire exam documented for me in the ophthalmology EHR.

There’s my cataract with all the content, fraction, order for surgery, whole detailed cataract evaluation and even my pre-op drops. Also, I’ve got my dry macular degeneration completely documented. All the information is pre-built into these plans based on what I see most frequently.

If there’s anything you don’t want to use, you can delete by line item. For example, I can delete the tear film osmolarity for this visit. When I close, I’m finished with the entire exam. This is just one way that our ophthalmology EHR system, EMA, can bring efficiency to your practice.
