Every minute counts in your podiatry practice. So let’s quickly review just a few of the time-saving features of Modernizing Medicine’s podiatry-specific EHR, EMA – designed for you, whether your podiatry practice focuses on at-risk foot care or advanced sports medicine treatments.
This is the visit overview screen which displays a running note view of the patient’s chief complaint, HPI, review of systems and vital signs. The patient has entered their past medical history, allergies and medications in the patient portal from home, through the ModMed Kiosk on an iPad in the waiting room, or through touchless check-in. This information can also be viewed in a tile format depending on your clinical workflow.
As we enter the virtual exam room, note the drawings and camera. It’s important for podiatrists to have the ability to capture images for their records but also for patient education tools. After an initial exam, the patient is diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. If this is a common diagnosis for your practice, with one tap, you can pull in an entire pre-built Protocol to help you start your documentation for this patient. You also have the versatility to customize Protocols based on your preferences.
This Protocol includes counseling, X-ray interpretation, footwear recommendations, an order for an MRI, and a prescription for physical therapy. You can easily edit the Protocol as needed. For example, you can delete the order for the MRI. You can also document any custom findings specific to this patient. These are built into EMA right out of the box, and are relevant to the diagnosis, which limits typing.
Next, you can quickly add an e-prescription. EMA remembers the most commonly prescribed prescriptions for this diagnosis. The patient’s preferred pharmacy automatically populates the prescription, and it can be sent electronically or through GoodRx. As you document the exam, EMA collects the required elements needed to determine the E/M level and suggests coding based on the services provided for you to review and approve.
The visit note output is very easy to read and highlights exam findings specific to this patient in red for easy identification. The encounter form includes the suggested coding as the visit is completed, which is generated based on the documentation and includes suggested CPT codes for X-rays, HCPCS, modifiers and the E/M level. You can then work with your billing office to review suggested codes and make changes where necessary, which can help to speed up the billing process.
The patient handout includes diagnosis information, recommendations and prescription instructions and anything discussed with the patient. It can be printed for the patient and posted to their patient portal. EMA orders are generated automatically at your request and include patient demographics, diagnosis and CPT codes electronically signed by the physician. Note that EMA provides auto fax capabilities so you can fax the PCP, referring provider or both upon finalization of the visit.
And just like that you are ready to move on to the next patient. If you want to see how EMA can work for you, request a demo today.
