I would describe previous systems as a linear. You start at the top and you work all the way to the bottom. With EMA^®, there’s so much functionality built into it that there is a lot at your fingertips. I can do corneal drawings, for example, very quickly on the fly with an apple pencil. Those pictures are stored and you can access them and then you can bring them forward and erase old drawings and just add new drawings to it. So it has a nice kind of continuity that I think most paper and most EMR systems do not offer.

I like protocols a lot. Once you figure out what you like in the protocol, you can see a patient with only a few clicks. After the technician workup for my post-operative visits, almost all of my exam findings, counseling and assessment can be done with a single protocol. So I’m able to streamline those encounters and focus more on engaging with the patients instead of documenting in the chart.
