“The GI software suite has really helped me to be more efficient and more effectively take care of my patients. I can now say that I’m practicing medicine the way I intended to in medical school — taking care of the patient versus interacting with a computer all day.”
— RICHARD NEMEC, MD
The team at Winchester Gastroenterology Associates has been providing GI care to the Northern Virginia community for over 30 years. The practice has grown to include seven physicians and seven advanced providers with plans for continued growth.
Twelve years ago, while many other gastroenterology practices were still holding on to paper charts or dealing with cumbersome EHR and practice management software, Winchester Gastroenterology Associates invested in the future.
An early believer in the benefits of GI software, gastroenterologist Dr. Richard Nemec and his colleagues chose a GI-specific solution from ModMedⓇ and haven’t looked back since.
As the group expanded, it needed all-in-one gastroenterology software that could grow and scale as the practice did, while keeping the focus on the patient. Dr. Nemec discusses the benefits he’s experienced by using the gGastro suite, which includes the Endoscopy Report Writer (ERW), the award-winning* gGastro gastroenterology EHR, the gPM gastroenterology practice management software and the payment processing platform ModMed Pay.
PATIENT INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
gGastro provides the right data at the right time so I no longer have to sort through a lot of information to find the most relevant insights. It’s really helped me to be more efficient, which in turn helps me to take care of my patients more effectively.
The flexibility and customizable features of the gastroenterology software are another plus. For example, I can add clinical guideline information for various GI conditions. This gives me evidence at my fingertips to back my treatment recommendations with referring physicians and patients. All the necessary information is right in the digital chart.
DOCUMENT QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY
Monitoring the patient’s referrals and follow-up treatment plan took more time initially because I never had the capability before. As the product has grown and I’ve become even more efficient with the software, it has significantly saved me time. Also, the ability to build templates as needed is very helpful and time-saving when the practice adds a new service, for example.
BRING THE FOCUS BACK ON THE PATIENT
I can now say that I’m practicing medicine the way I intended to in medical school — taking care of the patient versus interacting with a computer all day. The easy-to-use and intuitive gGastro software allows me to focus more on the patients and helps to make my interactions with them more personal.
It helps increase the chances that at every patient interaction point, our team can make the experience less stressful and more enjoyable because the technology is not getting in the way. We recognize that many people are probably scared, nervous, uncomfortable or in pain. We strive to improve the quality of the patient experience, and the right technology just makes that easier.
My advice for other physicians is to remember why you went into medicine to begin with and keep that in focus. That’s really going to help you make better decisions for whatever you decide to do, whether it’s to add a service, change an EHR, or expand. As long as you keep at it, focus on the reason that we’re here to help — I think that you’re going to do well, and your practice will grow.
