BACKGROUND
The Chicago area Weil Foot & Ankle Institute knew it was time to find a new software solution. In 2023, they joined Balance Health to become part of a national team of more than 200 podiatry experts.
With 17 clinical sites, the practice started searching for a stronger clinical solution, that would boost efficiency for physicians in multiple ways. They also wanted to streamline operations and save staff time. Two research teams, one of physician evaluators and another combining practice leaders and staff, reached the same conclusion.
“We started out with a wide net of options and narrowed it down to two, unanimously selecting ModMed,” said Tamara Porfirio, former Chief Operating Officer for Weil Foot & Ankle Institute and now Chief Administrative Officer for Balance Health. Tamara discusses the success they’ve experienced since switching to ModMed and their use of EMA® EHR and the Practice Management software.
BETTER BUSINESS INSIGHTS
We were looking for an all-in-one solution that provided us with more robust reporting capabilities, greater visibility into key performance indicators (KPIs) and also offered a strong clinical solution. These areas are what attracted us to ModMed Podiatry.
The system suggests billing codes based on physician documentation. With all the changes in coding and regulations, the software helps our doctors evaluate and improve their coding.
The ability to deep dive into our business performance and make proper adjustments when needed has increased our practice’s efficiency.
EXPEDITED DOCUMENTATION
Our business is performing better because our physicians can document each visit more thoroughly and faster through the use of clinical plans and Protocols. We try to get as many of our providers as possible to close their notes at the time of the visit or before they leave for the day. The use of Protocols has cut down several minutes of documentation per visit, so it’s been a win for us.
The ModMed software also ‘remembers’ each provider’s top impressions and top plans. This way, when one of our doctors is in the patient chart and they pull up a specific diagnosis, the system immediately presents those shortcuts. This feature is another way the system helps expedite documentation.
A GREAT EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND
Our team members tell me there are four major things they love about the ModMed software system:
- The ‘Last Ten Patients’ feature is great. When they’re pulling up charts and they have many patients in the clinic, they can find the last several patients that they’ve seen with a click of a button, which is very helpful.
- The ability to track appointments.
- The ability to drag and drop appointment changes. If a staff member needs to shift an appointment throughout the day, the system makes it easy and efficient.
- Near real-time insurance eligibility verification saves time at the front desk and gives greater visibility into eligibility, patient deductibles, and copayments at the time of service. This feature helps us reduce registration denials and speed up payment turnaround time.
ModMed did not just implement our new system and disappear. We have a customer success manager who really listens to us and takes our suggestions seriously. She connects us with the right resources at ModMed, which oftentimes takes our enhancement ideas to improve the system, not just for us, but for all of podiatry. And that’s been our goal since we joined: to work together to make the system the best it can be for podiatry. We feel like ModMed is a true partner.
