GEORGE BROWNE, MD
BACKGROUND
Dr. George Browne, an allergy and immunology specialist, opened his clinic, Bless You Allergy & Asthma®, in 2014 in Friendswood, TX. The practice’s mission is to improve patients’ lives by providing the most effective treatments for their allergy and asthma issues and an unparalleled patient-provider relationship.
Dr. Browne used an antiquated EHR system that he felt was rigid and inflexible for almost a decade. The patient portal was difficult to use, and customer support was virtually nonexistent. He decided to research other solutions and chose the all-in-one ModMed® Allergy suite. The iPad interface, built-in allergy-specific content, and ease of use attracted him to the software. Dr. Browne discusses his experience with ModMed and how it has helped his practice thrive.
EASIER AND FASTER DOCUMENTATION
When I researched ModMed, I loved that I could document on an iPad and that the EHR, EMA®, interfaces with Xtract Solutions and our spirometry software. I thought the system’s ease of use for the clinical staff was outstanding and would enhance our patient interactions.
Although ModMed was more expensive than my previous software, I knew it would be better for us long term — better for our bottom line and patient care, and that’s proven true. Before, I would stay at the office for an hour and a half to two hours after clinic to finish my notes. Now, I can easily leave within 30 minutes of my office closing because all my documentation is done. Due to the time saved, I see 15% to 20% more patients daily, resulting in higher revenue.
ALLERGY-SPECIFIC DOCUMENTATION & CODING
One of the things I really like about EMA is that I can enter a diagnosis and various associated diagnoses together. Then, I can put in the chief complaint and plan and pull forward my notes from past visits if needed. I can send out the medications right from the exam room. EMA makes documenting so easy.
At least 50% of our practice is food allergy-based. With my previous system, coding didn’t exist within the software. I had to enter all the billing information myself, often missing certain codes, resulting in lower reimbursements. EMA suggests allergy-specific codes based on my documentation, helping me bill a more accurate visit. The pathways skin test and the spirometry connect to our billing, which is super helpful.
Xtract Solutions also integrates with EMA, offering predictive dosing and reducing human error. Once the prescription formula is in place, Xtract helps ensure that it is the only one allowed because it was designed to prevent incorrect injections.
BACKED BY MODMED
Our previous system lacked capabilities, but the lack of customer support was the final straw. Anytime we had an issue, it felt like we were to blame, and we never received the help we needed. The ModMed team has been supportive and helpful from the start.
ModMed Allergy is a vast improvement from our last system. It is so easy to use, and our patients really like it. My clinical staff also loves it. My head nurse has shared that the more she uses ModMed, the more she likes it every day. Switching was like walking into the 21st century. ModMed allows us to treat our patients more efficiently.
