Founded in July 2002 by Dr. Richard L. Averitte, Jr., Affiliated Dermatology® has grown to 28 providers and nine locations that provide skin cancer prevention and treatment, medical and aesthetic dermatology services, as well as allergy testing.
The group was using an outdated, disconnected system that would not easily support growth and they knew they needed a change. In January 2020, the practice implemented EMA®, the award-winning* dermatology EHR system, Practice Management (PM), the Analytics platform, Pathology solution, and Patient Engagement tools.
The practice had success with the dermatology software suite, however, they were stuck with a payment processing solution that required manual calculations, and consumed vast resources, funds and time. They chose to increase and automate their patient collections process with ModMed Pay, ModMed’s payment processing platform. ACHIEVING GOALS WITH MODMED PAY
One of our goals was to improve our patient collections and to modernize that process. Given our success with EMA and the PM system, we were excited to learn about ModMed Pay because we knew it would be beneficial using an integrated solution. The ability to automate payment plans, process credit cards within the system and receive reports has streamlined our process and saved time. Because of the app’s beautiful, simplistic design, we can now have non-billing staff members document payment plans without the assistance of the billing team.
We used to manage payment plans via an Excel spreadsheet and manually calculated the interest, which resulted in significant error rates and wasted use of man-hours. With ModMed Pay, everything is built into the system allowing patients to select the payment option that is most convenient for them, which include text to pay, online quick pay, Patient Portal payments and ModMed Kiosk payments.
After about one month of using ModMed Pay, our online payments increased by $10k per week. We attribute this increase to the patient’s online payment experience.
HAPPY PATIENTS AND HAPPY STAFF
Having all-in-one dermatology software with connected payment processing has created simplicity for our patients by having everything in one place. Patients have been asking for the ability to access their statements and make payments using their Patient Portal. Before we even made the announcement, we saw payments coming in through the portal, which was a sign of how easy it is for them to recognize that these options are available.
Prior to ModMed Pay, we received daily complaints from patients stating that the landing page for online payments wasn’t user-friendly, so they preferred to pay via a phone call. Now, ModMed Pay’s landing page has the patient validate their identity and then they’re provided with their current balance. It’s a much more professional presentation and a quick process.
Also, we have a lot of happy employees because the dermatology software has helped make their jobs much easier. They’re not having to do all these workarounds and manual steps. It’s easier for us to manage a more complex and sophisticated process because it’s all within the system.
AN EXPERIENCE TO REMEMBER
The experience with the ModMed team from the beginning, through implementation and ongoing, has been great. We felt that it was a no-pressure sale and the timing was really on our terms. They also did a great job of helping us understand the system until we felt comfortable with converting over. Our account manager was very helpful and patient with us during the transition, which was seamless. We now have the tools to help us achieve our goals while focusing on patient care.
