Learn how one ENT and allergy practice with multiple locations throughout Southern New Jersey successfully switched to new practice software
“EMA is very intuitive and it was built by practicing otolaryngologists with efficiency in mind. At the end of the day, I’m no longer taking hours of office work home with me. I now have time to do other things — spend time with family and friends. Using EMA has been a real joy.”
— KARTIK DANDU, MD
Advanced ENT & Allergy, the largest practice in Southern New Jersey, has 16 otolaryngologists, two allergists, one physician assistant, 10 audiologists, two hearing instrument specialists and three speech language pathologists across seven locations.
The practice had relied on the same cumbersome EHR for nine years, but it couldn’t keep up with regulatory requirements. It was decided that it was time to modernize the software, so Advanced evaluated several other systems. Based on demos and feedback from colleagues, it chose ModMed® Otolaryngology, including EMA® EHR, the award-winning* ENT system, Practice Management (PM) and Patient Engagement tools. Kartik Dandu, MD, one of the otolaryngologists at the group, shares his experience with the ENT software.
INCREASED CHARTING PRODUCTIVITY
Our previous software felt clunky, and charts weren’t easy to complete quickly. EMA is very intuitive, and it was built by practicing otolaryngologists with efficiency in mind. We like to save time wherever we can, and the use of Protocols has considerably increased my charting productivity.
I have a list of common diagnoses that I see often, from earwax to reflux to allergic rhinitis and sinusitis. With Protocols, I can click on three or four different diagnoses and all of the plans are prepopulated. Then, I can fine-tune my input from there. Having that foundation makes a huge difference, saving me at least a couple of minutes per visit and allowing me more time to speak face to face with patients.
With EMA, we complete charts faster, which speeds up billing. At the end of the day, I’m no longer taking hours of office work home with me. I now have time to do other things — spend time with family and friends. Using EMA has been a real joy.
EFFICIENCY IS KEY
The cloud-based all-in-one ENT software solution offers mobile features, which also save time. I like to use PocketEMA on my phone, because I can easily pull up my schedule to view what my next day entails. Also, by using Office Flow on my iPad, I have visibility into when patients check in and when they’re in a room and ready for me, which helps us keep our workflow efficient. If patients fall behind schedule, then the whole day runs late.
The Patient Reminders functionally has also helped decrease our no-show rate. Patients not only receive regular appointment reminders via text and email, the system can also let them know if earlier appointments are available, helping us keep a full schedule.
CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT REALLY CARES
Any software can be great on day one, but it needs to continue evolving and improving with time. That’s what I like most about ModMed Otolaryngology. The team listens. We’ve sent lists of enhancements that we’d like to see in the future, and sometimes those do get rolled out in various iterations. I also appreciate having a physician advocate, Dr. David Lehman, senior medical director of otolaryngology at ModMed, who’s willing to make changes for us.
With any company, it really comes down to customer service in my opinion. These days, it’s not enough just to deliver, you’ve got to overdeliver — ModMed has done that.
