Co-founder and Chief Medical and Strategy Officer shares insights at upcoming conferences.

Each year, members from Modernizing Medicine travel around the country to showcase our specialty-specific suite of solutions, connecting with current and future clients on what they need in software while learning how we can help.

We’re fortunate to have a very talented and experienced staff including the members of our executive leadership team. With two impactful conferences on the horizon, our co-founder and chief medical and strategy officer, Dr. Michael Sherling, will speak at both Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Association of Dermatology Administrators & Managers (ADAM) annual meetings on some of the latest trends in the industry. Here’s where you can find him and what to expect.

First Up, HIMSS 2019 in Orlando, Fla.

Every year at arguably the largest health IT conference in the world, HIMSS unites thought leaders and innovative companies that support the transformation of health through the application of information and technology. With over 45,000 professionals from over 90 countries, HIMSS makes a global impact. This year we’re fortunate enough for it to take place only a few hours away from our headquarters.

Echoing HIMSS’ vision of “better through information and technology,” Dr. Sherling will offer his insights during a panel discussion on price transparency.

Dr. Sherling will serve on the panel hosted by Surescripts Vice President, Dr. Andrew Mellin, “Enabling Price Transparency With Actionable Intelligence at the Point of Care,” on Tuesday, February 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the interoperability showcase education theater. Dr. Lynne Nowak, Dr. Darla Kincaid and Josh Holzbauer will also serve on the panel.

The discussion will focus on how the healthcare market has achieved a breakthrough in prescription price transparency, benefiting patients and providers with greater efficiency, reduced costs and increased satisfaction and how interoperability gives providers access to patient-specific, accurate and formulary-based price and therapeutic alternative information at the point of care. New data reveals the significant impact of price transparency–in some instances as much as $8,032 on a single prescription and thousands of hours of wait time by eliminating manual prior authorizations.

Both Surescripts (booth 6158) and Modernizing Medicine (booth 5046) will have a presence at the show, so certainly set aside some time to connect with each company’s team before or after the panel.

Next Up, ADAM and AAD

At the Association of Dermatology Administrators & Managers (ADAM) leading up to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Dr. Sherling will present on the topic of impending EHR trends, with the session “How Will EMR Change in 2019?” His session will take place on Thursday, February 28 from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Additionally, Dr. Sherling will participate in a roundtable discussion later that day from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Then, during AAD you can find Dr. Sherling and the dermatology team at booth 1237 throughout the conference.

Wondering what to expect during Dr. Sherling’s ADAM presentation? He’ll discuss potential changes regarding EMR technology in 2019 and beyond. His discussion will outline how HIT trends such as practice consolidation, interoperability and patient engagement will influence dermatology EMR innovation. Additionally, he’ll discuss the key changes to the Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2019 and where they fit in to shaping the future of dermatology EMRs. You’re probably quite familiar with the term artificial intelligence (AI), but what about intelligence amplification (IA)? What’s the difference and how is it shaping EHR technology? Dr. Sherling will discuss all this and more during his presentation at ADAM, so mark your calendars.

Not attending HIMSS or ADAM this year? Not to worry as Dr. Sherling and others from the Modernizing Medicine team will make appearances around the country sharing how our suite of health IT solutions can benefit specialty practices.
