BACKGROUND

AUC Urologists LLC comprises 12 physicians, nine mid-levels, and 200+ employees across its South Carolina office locations, research and surgical centers. The group is dedicated to providing cutting-edge urologic care. Educated and trained at some of the nation’s top medical schools and teaching hospitals, its urologists combine proficiency with skill in advanced surgical techniques.

In 2017, AUC Urologists switched from their previous software to EMA® EHR from ModMed. At that time, they were part of a large group that required them to utilize a separate practice management system, which was not ideal. In January 2024, the AUC team became an independent practice and fast-tracked their implementation of ModMed Practice Management (PM). Debbie Bolig, Director of Operations, shares her experience with ModMed over the years and how transitioning to the all-in-one system has improved overall efficiencies.

A CUTTING EDGE ABOVE THE REST

Our previous EHR system was outdated. Our providers wanted a platform that was cutting-edge, urology-specific and customizable, which is why we chose EMA over other solutions. We also found tremendous value in having Dr. Nadeem Dhanani, urologist and Medical Director of Urology at ModMed, accessible to us. He and the ModMed team listened to our feedback and implemented some of our enhancement requests. The software is continuously improving and evolving, and it feels good to know we’ve had a hand in it. We feel like we have a true partner in ModMed because they listen.

UROLOGY SOFTWARE SUITE

We knew that we wanted to implement the PM system for a while; however, it wasn’t an option until we became a private practice. When the opportunity was available, we quickly jumped at the chance to fast-track our adoption of the PM platform, and I’m so happy we did it.

The front desk doesn’t have to switch between two different systems to check in a patient. Before, they had to go into the old PM system, check in the patient, and then back to EMA to import the demographics and create the visit. Now, it’s all in one system; no bridge is required.

Billing is more streamlined because information isn’t getting lost in an interface between two systems. Our billers love the built-in claim scrubbers, which help catch any mistakes in advance. We didn’t have those types of capabilities in our previous system. Now, we have more transparency and control over our revenue cycle. We bill a lot of unique codes, and we can set those up as quick codes in the system, which saves time.

We love the insurance eligibility feature. Not only can our front desk check eligibility faster, but it also holds them accountable for gathering that information up front so it doesn’t get held up in billing. The PM system is so easy to use and customizable that our team really enjoys it. I can’t imagine ever going back to using two separate systems.

Also, the Analytics platform allows me to drill down my reports into granular detail. I can see info such as how busy our nurse practitioners are and what coding levels are billing most often. Additionally, we recently adopted Klara®, which has enabled us to eliminate some of the other systems we were paying for. Klara is going to make all of our patient communication much smoother.

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE

One of the biggest things that I love about ModMed is the people. The team has been wonderful to work with from the beginning, back in 2016 when we were evaluating EMA. I have a weekly call with my customer success manager. She keeps us updated on product releases, important dates, events, and more, which has been incredibly helpful. I’d be lost without her. I’m such a supporter of ModMed thanks to the people who have made my experience so enjoyable over the years.
